Successful update to Mac OS X 10.6.4 on GA-P35-DS3L

Yet another release from Apple, this new release enhances the stability of the genuine Mac machines and brings down the Hackintosh yet .. again! Changes that breaks things in this update:

  • SleepEnabler.ext would not boot and result in Kernel Panic if kernel flag pmVersion is not set to 20
  • AppleHDA.kext drop support for ALC888 (introduced in 10.6.3)

I will show you how to update to latest 10.6.4 safely. Please read carefully and follow the instructions. You can ask questions by posting comment and I will try to help you out .

  • To resolve the SleepEnabler.kext Kernel Panic, before installing 10.6.4 you have 2 options:
    1. Edit your Extra/Extensions’s com.apple.Boot.plist file with this code:
      Kernel Flags pmVersion=20

    2. Remove E/E SleepEnabler.kext completely and then after installing 10.6.4, then drag Meklort ‘s kernel independent SleepEnabler.kext to your E/E folder. Download the extension here

WARNING if you do not update pmVersion kernel flag nor removing your current SleepEnabler.kext, you will get Kernel Panic on restart – so be decisive! I go for Meklort’s way

  • Backup your /System/Libary/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext if you were following my previous post. You will need to reinstall this kext with Kext Utility after installing 10.6.4. This is because Apple drop support for ALC888 in 10.6.3. You can reuse your 10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext if you are upgrading from 10.6.2.
  • For Bonjour fix, If you have used the RealtekR1000SL.kext method in /Extra/Extensions you will need to re-do that too (again see the previously posted link to the 10.6.3 update for details).
  • Please make sure you drag and drop the E/E folder onto Kext Utility to fix permission, this step is highly recommended. Next download and install 10.6.4 combo update. Restart and enjoy!

Please search around for Kext Utility, it’s one of the best tool for Hackintosh!

Thanks so much! I was wondering why I get KP after installing 10.6.4, now i know it’s because of SleepEnabler. What I did is I set pmVersion in bootloader and once I get in, I modify my plist file.

Thanks for the guide, appreciate your effort 🙂
Speaking of SleepEnabler, am having an issue getting my hackintosh to sleep properly, as whenever i put it to sleep, my PC shutsdown as if it’s hibernating in windows then backs on right away, if i try to put it in sleep one more time, the same happens again but the monitor stays off no matter what i do and i had to just restart the machine..

I tried with and without overclocking.
Tried to play around abit with various bios settings.
Tried with and without the sleepenabler.kext.

    It’s actually always the same.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Thanks. Are you using Chameleon as boot loader? Do you know how to set kernel flag pmVersion with Chameleon? I fogot to remove SleepEnabler.kext and now I am stuck with Kernel Panic.

    • ToBeMac

While you’re at the chameleon boot screen, with the Mac partition highlighted, just type in PmVersion=20 and press Enter.

      • ToBeMac

        Ops sorry, it’s PmVersion=0
Then AFTER you delete the old sleepenabler and add the new one, then you have to boot with PmVersion=20, or better add it to your apple.boot.plist as written in the above guide.

        GoodLuck.

  5. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time. This made very glad

Thanks for these guides! I’ve kept them bookmarked and they’ve never failed me for updates. Any advice on 10.6.5?
